Mary Paille, B.ScN.,R.N., joined our team in 2005. She has done a tremendous job in her capacity as Community Health Nurse for our community. Her responsibilities include ensuring our community is well prepared and has facilitated the recruitment of an Emergency Preparedness Planner. |
The Community Health Nurse synthesizes knowledge from public health science, primary health care nursing science, theory, knowledge of social sciences, as well as traditional aboriginal practices. The CHN practices population health promotion in partnership with community members, the Home Care Nurse, Community Health Representative and other identified multidisciplinary partners, in various locations throughout the community to meet various needs of its members. Although the focus of community health nursing practice is that of health promotion of the community at large, the CHN integrates their personal and clinical understanding and knowledge of the health and illness experiences of individuals and families.
The Community Health Nurse provides the following services:
- Health promotion, protection, maintenance, restoration, and palliation;
- Illness and injury prevention;
- Building both individual and community capacity;
- Building relationships and partnerships with community members, care providers, stakeholders, and decision makers;
- Facilitating access and equitable distribution of resources;
- And demonstrating professional responsibility and accountability.
Emergency First Aid/Health Items Available through the CHN:
- Acetaminophen
- Children’s Acetaminophen
- Ibuprofen
- cough medicine
- allergy medicine
- Anti-nausea medication
- Bandages and gauze
- Tension bandages
A maximum amount of three days worth of medication will be given. If symptoms persist, you must see the CHN for a follow-up or book an appointment with your family physician.
*Please note that the CHN must be present for an assessment/examination before any item/medication is given away, NO EXCEPTIONS. The administration staff of BFHC are not permitted to release any of the above items.
